Windows 7 users complained about an unexpected compatibility evaluator

Some users of Windows 7 complained about the incorrect behavior of system updates. People were concerned about the patch under the identifier KB4507456 – the so-called “compatibility evaluator” (Compatibility Appraiser).

Complaints were received from those users who subscribed exclusively to the security updates for the Windows 7 system. At the same time, the suddenly-generated KB4507456 cannot be considered a security patch.

As the experts explained, this is a telemetry component that Microsoft warned about back in September 2018, then the “compatibility evaluator” was released under the identifier KB2952664.

The problem is that the corporation did not warn about the inclusion of component KB4507456 in the July patchset, which caused concern to users who subscribe exclusively to the security update. Recall that three years ago, Microsoft announced that it plans to provide Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users with two different approaches to updating the OS. In the first case, it is possible to receive all outgoing updates, in the second – only security patches.
