Google cloud platform failure

The failure of the cloud infrastructure of Google cloud platform made Gmail, YouTube, Discord, Snapchat and other services inaccessible.

On June 2, Google announced a massive failure in its Google Cloud Platform. Because of what some sites and applications have stopped working in some regions. At the same time, users have problems with access not only to their own services, such as Gmail, G Suite and YouTube, but also to Discord, Snapchat, and other applications that depend on the Google infrastructure. The problem mainly affected users in the US and Europe.

So far, there is no detailed information about what exactly happened and caused the failure. Google only reported that it was “related to a larger network problem.” A Google spokesman said that the problem is related to the “high level of network congestion” in the eastern part of the United States, and that the company believes that it addresses the “root cause” of the problem, and the resumption of customer service will occur soon. In fact, it was possible to restore the work only about 7 PM on June 3, Toronto time. Again, the company did not clarify the details of what happened, confining itself to saying that a thorough study would be carried out followed by the introduction of “relevant improvements”.

Although such interruptions are rarely long, they have happened to Google more than once in recent months. For example, last October, a simple YouTube service was observed, and Google’s shared services were disabled in November due to routing problems. At the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, Nest also experienced a number of interruptions.
